Your Itinerary
The sample itinerary described below is approximately like the itinerary you will be during your stay with JB Tours. However, the exact times, day, and destinations may be different. Your timed itinerary and luggage tags will be sent to you along with your receipt.
DAY 1 – Tuesday, June 23
Depart from your hometown and begin your West Virginia adventure! Greenbrier Bunker Tour – A most unusual tour awaits. You visit The Greenbrier’s Bunker, built by the Eisenhower Administration. It was a Fall Out Shelter for Congress in the event of a Nuclear Attack. This secret facility existed for 30 years, in plain sight, yet hidden from both hotel employees and guests.
DAY 2 – Wednesday, June 24
Cass Scenic Railroad with Lunch – Another day of adventure as you motor north into the Alleghenies. Your destination is the townsite of Cass. It looks much today as it did in its heyday as a company logging town. Restored company houses line the hillside. The Historical Museum and the Cass Showcase, with its diorama and film, provide interpretation. You’ll pick up a boxed lunch at the Company Store, and then it’s an exciting moment as you board a steam locomotive and pull out of the depot.
DAY 3 – Thursday, June 25
Greenbrier Wilderness Train – This new train ride leaves from Cass, WV, on an excursion into the wilderness of the Greenbrier River Valley. Framed by forested hills on both sides of the river, this remote, rugged, unpopulated region is home to bald eagles, osprey, black bear, and coyotes. You will stop off at Durbin for lunch.
Tour of The National Radio Astronomy Observatory – Next, you will ride into a nearby quiet valley that is filled with giant satellite dishes. This is the Green Bank Radio Astronomy Observatory intentionally located in one of America’s most quiet spots. Here, our scientists are listening for sounds from space, and you will tour the facility.
DAY 4 – Friday, June 26
New Tygart Flyer with Boxed Lunch – Today’s wilderness excursion is the New Tygart Flyer, departing from the town of Elkins. This route features an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge and miles of unspoiled mountain views. The vintage diesel-powered locomotive climbs along the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls which are accessible only by train.
Explore the West Virginia Railroad Museum – The West Virginia Railroad Museum is located in the historic Darden Mill in Elkins, WV—a city that was built by the railroads.
Gandy Dancer Dinner & Show – After a wonderful plated dinner, sit back and listen to the fabulous Mountain Memories Show Band as they serve up a two-hour Branson-style show with music from the 50’s to today, featuring Country, Pop, Motown, Gospel, and Patriotic, along with familyfriendly comedy and amazing dancers.
DAY 5 – Saturday, June 27
Depart for Home Blackwater Falls Photo Stop – On your way home, your group will make a photo stop at scenic Blackwater Falls This waterfall is 65 feet high, and the gorge below is more than 525 feet deep. There is an observation point on the gorge’s rim and, for the adventurous ones, there are stairways which descend to the foot of the falls.
